Meditations on Suicide Prevention

Description:  Drawing on several written works and centering transgender authors, we trace the contours of how suicide impacts OtherWise communities, destigmatize conversation about suicidality, and share some very basic resources for prevention. Each day of the course has new content, a new possibility model, a new highlighted text.

Bodily autonomy, consent, and self-determination are key themes for working with OtherWise communities. However, these values are not always evenly distributed across all suicide prevention programs, which will be a key dynamic to explore through a more-in-depth course.  For this course, we are reclaiming the phrase "Choose Life" in alignment with such themes.

This is not a pragmatic suicide prevention workshop designed to train you how to intervene with someone who is considering suicide. Instead, we seek to reframe the conversation around suicidality in order to make space for more conversation, more care, and more support.

September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, but this content will be relevant any time of year!
